Gaj may be defined as a unit of measurement which is generally employed in northern parts of India. Gaj is equivalent to 9 square feet. Gaj is a standard word employed in Hindi for the square yard. Gaj is also called Guz and was first brought by the Mughal Empire in India. Gaj is also employed as Square Gaj.

It is a unit of length that was before employed in the Asian continent in places like Bangladesh and Nepal. In India, currently states like Delhi, Haryana and Punjab employ Gaj for land measurements. During the Mughal and British rule in India Gaj was also employed for calculating textiles.

For example, if you want to convert 100 gaj to square feet, then you will have to multiply 100*9 which is equal to 900 square feet. To alter from square feet to gaj you will have to divide the area by 9.
