Building Innovation Awards 2024: Ever at the cutting edge
This post was originally published on this site
The list of finalists competing for recognition as the best of the best in construction and property innovation has been released, so read all about those who are pushing back the boundaries of what’s possible
Yes, it’s that time of year again; so get those glad rags out of the wardrobe and make ready to toast the construction industry’s very best of innovators.
The Building Innovation Awards are all set to present another glamorous celebration of the industry’s movers and shakers – those who are powering its transformation – but underneath the glitz there’s a serious purpose.
As we know, construction is all-too-often perceived as a somewhat conservative and traditional industry; stuck on doing things the old-fashioned way. There’s some truth in that, as plenty of industry insiders acknowledge, but it’s far from being the entire picture.
Change is happening. New technologies, materials, and techniques are coming to the fore. The potential of the digital revolution is shifting capabilities, and unlocking an entirely new tomorrow for the built environment.
And highlighting the pioneering efforts of the change-makers is precisely what the Building Innovation Awards are all about.
The event serves to recognise and celebrate the innovations, individuals, organisations, and partnerships that are taking the UK construction industry to the next level. It serves to showcase the emerging technologies and the navigators of digital transformation who are steering the industry along the highway of change.
From the materials and technologies that redefine possibilities, to the contractors and manufacturers who are actively re-devising modern construction, the event offers a salute to the future that is emerging today.
As in previous years, competition has proved tough; the finalists contending to take home a prize represent a powerful collection of innovation talent. Obviously, not everyone can take home a prize – that’s the nature of such events – but they all stand at the forefront as leaders of change.
Joe Broun, managing director of event organiser, UKBE said: “The calibre of entries to the Building Innovation Awards never fails to impress. Once again, we have a fantastic line up of finalists.
“These projects, the technologies represented, and the phenomenal people who are making a difference to future-proof our built environment are showcasing innovation at its best.
“We can’t wait to present the winners on the night, and to welcome everyone to an event that will dazzle, glitter and shine in your memories for all the right reasons.”
Well, there’s not long to wait, and with the shortlist of finalists released, you might say the starting gun has fired. The prestigious celebration is all set to commence on the evening of 17 October.
A night to remember
This year the Building Innovation Awards are being held in the stunning glass pinnacle that is the Hilton Deansgate Manchester; a fitting venue, for sure.
Come the night, guests will be treated to a drinks reception and a gala dinner, as well as plenty of food for thought. There’s a dollop of rich entertainment to come, rounded off by some musical delights for those inclined to wind down with a few moves on the dance floor.
Guest speaker, Danny Crates is sure to inspire. After losing his right arm in a horrific accident aged just 21, he was determined to overcome that huge hurdle, regain his positive mental attitude, and focus on the future.
Such resilience, drive and determination saw him back on the rugby field within six months. Shortly after, he found himself quickly dominating the field in Paralympic sport – winning gold in the men’s 800 metres at the 2024 Athens Paralympic Games; also setting a new world record.
Host Justin Moorhouse will keep the audience glued to their seats for entirely different reasons. The comedian, actor – and dog walker – is an experienced hand on the events circuit, where he is known for his cheeky and irreverent, yet professional approach to keeping audiences entertained.
Justin began his comedy career in Manchester. In 2002, he competed in a comedy competition held at the Southern pub in Chorlton, winning the final held at the Comedy Store Manchester. Soon afterwards, he performed in a comedy tour, before getting the role of Young Kenny, in Phoenix Nights.
Justin is a new firm favourite in Dictionary Corner on C4’s Countdown, and you’ll hear him regularly on Radio 4’s The News Quiz and as a Champion of Champions on BBC 5Live’s Fighting Talk, as well as his weekly contributions to the Warm Up on Talk Sport with Max Rushden and Barry Glendenning on Sunday mornings.
The night of the awards will end to the musical accompaniment of not one – but two – highly successful and admired tribute bands.
Definitely MightBe is now the oldest Oasis tribute band in the world, together for 18 years with over 2,000 shows under their belt, including several tours on the prestigious o2 Academy circuit, and appearances at huge open air festivals.
Supporting them is Stone Roses tribute band, Adored. The former was active in the late ’80s and early ’90s, and was one of the core bands that defined the era’s ‘Madchester Baggy’ scene in Manchester.
All round, it’s set to be a great evening of entertainment and celebration; definitely not a night to miss.
Lastly – but certainly not leastly – thanks go to the event’s sponsors, for their generous support of the Building Innovation Awards: Egnyte; Futurebuild; hsbcad; mpba; Nima; and Pinnacle Infotech.
Now, over to the finalists…
