A massive congratulations to both. We encouraged students to take the initiative in recognising the tutors who have made a significant impact on their educational journey and received four outstanding nominations in total:
• Mike Grant, @stratharch
• Rachael Hallett @edinarcsoc
• Douglas McCorkell, DJCAD
• And Laurence Wood DJCAD
Our judging panel, Chris Stewart, Past President RIAS, Gordon Murray, Past President RIAS and Marjorie Appleton had the tricky task of selecting our winners with Douglas and Laurence standing out for their significant but distinct contributions to the teaching standards of the school. Thank you to Chris and Marjorie for presenting the award, read their comments below:
Douglas McCorkell: With a wealth of design experience across various building types, Douglas excels at integrating professional practice into his teaching by encouraging students to explore diverse architectural forms and develop their creativity while also supporting extracurricular activities that broaden student engagement.
Laurence Wood: Building on his humanitarian work, Laurence’s commitment to project-based learning creates a dynamic environment that mirrors professional practice, immersing students in real-world contexts where design directly impacts lives, thereby cultivating a passionate, mature approach to architectural design.
