Firefighters probe cause of Leeds modular scheme blaze

Firefighters are investigating the cause of a major blaze at developer Citu’s eco development scheme in Leeds city centre.

Fire crews were called out to tackle the blaze at the Central Place in Hunslet in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The fire broke out in a timber-framed three-storey office building at the development, which was nearing completion.

At its height crews from 13 different stations battled the fire, which broke out on the third floor.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “We received multiple calls from members of the public around 1.15am on Thursday morning, regarding smoke coming from the third storey of a timber-framed eco building under construction at Central Place in the Hunslet area of Leeds.

“The fire was extinguished around 4:55am.”
