Italian contractor Webuild has announced plans to build a factory in Terni, Umbria, to repair its 58 tunnel boring machines (TBM).

The machines will be serviced after they finish a project, and can be modified for new schemes.

TBMs usually work for periods of between five and nine months after which they may need upgrades to meet new standards in automation, efficiency and safety.

Webuild has also created a subsidiary called Webuild Equipment & Machinery (WEM), which will focus use simulators to train staff on the use of machinery.
