The Honorable Former Mayor William Peduto created an economic/community model p4 – people, planet, place & performance to guide investment. During his tenure, Pittsburgh was recognized nationally & internationally as a model city, receiving awards in urban excellence for technology, mobility, sustainability, infrastructure & equity. Prior to serving as Pittsburgh’s Mayor, he served 12 years on City Council, partnering to establish the tech/ed/med industry, writing Pittsburgh’s campaign and ethics laws & led Pittsburgh’s Progressive movement. The capstone of his environmental leadership was his continued work from 2003-2021 to create Pittsburgh’s largest park at Hays Woods.
Former Mayor Peduto will revisit the concept paper “A National Strategic Narrative,” which he co-authored. The paper positioned sustainability as a critical strategy to safeguard American national security.
At the 2018 Inspire Speaker Series, Patricia spoke about biophilic design as an emerging design process exploring the connection between humans and nature within the built environment. Today, while sustainable design, biophilic design, and carbon neutrality have become more embedded in the lexicon of building professionals, there are still hurdles to implementing these practices in the building industry. Patricia will explore this through her recent work in K-12 design.
Patricia Culley is an Associate Principal with , an award-winning national architecture firm celebrated for designs that enrich the spirit of place. She is passionate about exploring design strategies, methods, and materials to create a healthier built environment, doing so through her projects and public speaking. She is a former board member of the Green Building Alliance and has been honored with the Pittsburgh 40 Under 40 and the AIA Young Architects Award.
