Who runs this: BuildMyTalent, Alex Ramsden, is the data controller for this community.
What it’s for: A peer-to-peer WhatsApp Community for students on University Courses to discuss careers, job opportunities, and grad scheme applications.
Your data: As this is a public WhatsApp Group, your phone number will be visible to others within this group, other information is not public. We rely on consent as our lawful basis. We don’t otherwise share your data with third parties.
Monitoring: We do not actively monitor this community. We rely on members reporting posts that breach our community guidelines.
Moderation: We take down posts that breach our community guidelines (including offensive or defamatory content) and, where necessary, reply with a standard message only.
Content: This is a peer-to-peer community. BuildMyTalent does not verify the accuracy of posts. Seek professional advice before making career decisions based on anything shared here.
Enforcement: We reserve the right to remove any member who disregards our community guidelines, logged under the Community tab.
Community standards: We encourage all members to take an active role in upholding the standards of our community, if you see a post that doesn’t belong, please report it rather than assuming someone else will.
Respectful conduct and reporting harassment: This community should be a professional, respectful space for everyone, regardless of race, sex, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or any other personal characteristic. We do not monitor the community in real time, so we rely on members to tell us about problems. If you experience or witness harassment, discriminatory content, hate speech, or content encouraging self-harm or violence, please report it to an admin at support@buildmytalent.com and we will review and act on it, the same route used to report a defamatory post below.
Keeping this community defamation-free: This service is supported by construction industry partners who help fund it. The community is not run on their behalf or in their name, but a fair, accurate, non-defamatory discussion protects everyone, members, the companies discussed, and us. Do not post false, sweeping, or unsubstantiated statements about any company or individual.
Reporting a bad experience, what’s useful and acceptable: stick to specific, verifiable facts about what happened and your own experience of it, rather than false, sweeping, or unsubstantiated claims. The examples below show the difference.
Assessment Example Posts:
Fair and defensible “The multiple schedule changes and last-minute format shifts made it difficult to prepare effectively.” Describes specific, factual events and the poster’s own experience of them. It doesn’t make a claim about anyone’s character, honesty, or competence.
Unfair and indefensible “The interview was a complete circus run by a totally incompetent hiring manager.” “Circus” and “totally incompetent” are sweeping, unsubstantiated character judgments dressed as fact. They read as an accusation about a named individual’s or company’s competence, which is harder to defend as opinion if challenged.
Retention: We keep records of any post we act on (and why, including the action taken), and of any complaint we receive, for 6 years to demonstrate we’ve acted responsibly, then delete them.
Other data processors: WhatsApp/Meta operates the underlying messaging service and processes your messages under its own privacy policy, which may involve data transfers outside the UK. We are not responsible for WhatsApp’s own handling of your data, see WhatsApp’s privacy policy for details.
Your rights: You can ask to access, correct, or delete your data, or complain about how it’s handled, by contacting support@buildmytalent.com. You can also complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
Leaving: You can leave the community at any time via WhatsApp.
